What is chicken biryani?

Chicken biryani is a classic South Asian dish consisting of aromatic rice, tender chicken, and a blend of spices. There are countless variations of chicken biryani like egg biryani, mutton biryani, etc. Chicken biryani recipe is made with basmati rice, chicken, ginger, garlic, chili, turmeric, coriander, raw spices, and mint coriander leaves. especially, biryani is everyone’s favorite in India. It’s appetizing, and India’s favorite dish is often enjoyed as a main course in India.

Ingredients For Chicken Biryani recipe

– 3 cups basmati rice, soaked for half-hour

 – half kg chicken, cut into medium pieces

– 2 cups plain yogurt

 – 4 onions, thinly sliced

– 2 tomatoes, paste

– 2-3 raw green chilies (do not cut )

– 2 tablespoons chopped ginger-garlic

– 1/2 cup chopped fresh coriander leaves

– 1/2 cup chopped fresh mint leaves

– 4 tablespoons biryani masala (a blend of raw spices )you can make this masala at home

– 1/2 teaspoon powder of turmeric

– 1 teaspoon red chili powder (if you want you can add more )

– Salt as per your taste

– 1/4 cup cooking oil or ghee (if you want actual flavor use ghee)

2 cups water

– Saffron dip into warm milk

– Fried onions for garnish

Chicken Biryani Recipe- Step By Step Instructions

1) Take a bowl and add yogurt, chopped ginger-garlic, half of the chopped coriander leaves, half of the chopped mint leaves, biryani masala, turmeric powder, red chili powder, and salt as per your taste, and make a paste. Let it marinate for at least 1 hour, if you want actual flavor let it marinate overnight preferably in the refrigerator.

2) Heat oil or ghee in a large pot. Add thinly sliced onions and sauté on low flame until golden brown. take half of the fried onions for garnish.

3) Add the marinated chicken to the pot with onions and cook until the chicken is partially cooked (it takes around 15 minutes )and the spices are fragrant.

4) Layer the soaked rice evenly over the chicken.

5)add water over the rice. Add chopped tomatoes and raw green chilies. add the remaining chopped coriander leaves and mint leaves on top.

6) Cover the pot with a tight-fitting lid and cook on low heat for 15-20 minutes, or until the rice and chicken are fully cooked and tender. You can also place a heavy object on the lid to seal it tightly (dum cooking).

7) Once cooked, gently fluff the biryani with a fork. add saffron milk over the top for added rich flavor and color.

8) Garnish with fried onions and serve hot with raita or salad.

Note: you can add potatoes, egg, and pickles to biryani as per your choice

Marinate the chicken preferably overnight this is the most important step of chicken biryani recipe. 

– Use a tight-fitting seal in the pot for dum cooking. This helps the flavors meld together and ensures evenly cooked rice and chicken.
